The Ecole Normale Supérieure is delighted to welcome Prof. Thierry Libaert as guest speaker at the second edition of the International Congress of Communication Sciences..
In the time between 2000 and 2013, he taught Information and Communication Sciences at diverse prestigious institutions such as the Institut d'Etudes Politiques of Paris, the Université Paris-IV (CELSA), the Université de La Réunion, and the Université catholique de Louvain. At the latter, he also directed the Laboratoire d'Analyse des Systèmes de Communication d'Organisation (Lasco) between from 2008 to 2013.
In addition, he has held a number of positions of responsibility and representation in the field of communications, namely Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Communication & Entreprise association, Vice-Chairman of the Conseil Paritaire de la Publicité of the Autorité Française de Régulation Professionnelle de la Publicité, member of the Académie des Sciences Commerciales, and moderator of the communications commission of the Ordre National des Pharmaciens. He was also Scientific Director of the International Crisis Observatory and a member of the Ecological Watch Committee of the Nicolas-Hulot Foundation, where he played an active role in the Grenelle Environment Forum.
In 2014, he joined EDF as head of communications strategy in the field of sustainable development, before retiring in January 2024.
He is an advisor to the European Economic and Social Committee, where he is the point of contact for the French delegation. First appointed by the French government in 2010, he was reappointed in 2015 and 2020. Co-Chairman of the Consumers and Environment Category, he is a member of the "Environment" and "Internal Market" sections, and is the author of the first European text on the fight against programmed obsolescence. He is particularly involved in the new economic modalities of ecological transition.
Scientific contributor to « Earth & Life Institute » he is also a member of the Board of Directors of the think tank La Fabrique Ecologique, the Association Nationale des Communicants, the endowment fund Equité Partagée, and the Institut des Futurs Souhaitables (2014-2023), member of the Scientific Council of the Fondation pour la Nature et l'Homme, the Honorary Committee of the Institut National d'Economie Circulaire (2014-2019), the Académie de Sciences Commerciale, the GIE Toute l'Europe, the Comité de suivi des contrats Climat, and the Conseil de l'Ethique Publicitaire.
Previously, he was a negotiator at the Grenelle de l'Environnement (Governance Commission, 2007), a member of the cabinet of the Minister of the Environment (2004), Vice-Chairman of the Conseil Paritaire de la Publicité (2008-2011), Associate Professor at the University of Paris-IV (Celsa, 1992-2008), Associate Professor at Sciences-Po (2000-2013) and Professor in Information and Communication Sciences at the Catholic University of Louvain (2008-2014).
Commissioned in 2018 by the Minister of Ecological Transition for a report on the sustainability of products, a report submitted in January 2019, he was (September 2019) entrusted with a new mission relating to the compatibility of the advertising model in the face of the challenges of ecological transition. He was also a member of the Monitoring Committee for the preparation of the French Presidency of the European Union (1st semester 2022).
He worked (December 2014-January 2024) as Head of Mission in the EDF Group's Impact division and was elected to the Head Office's Social and Economic Commission (CFE-CGC list).
He holds a doctorate in information and communication sciences (University of Louvain), a postgraduate diploma in political and social communication (Paris II), a diploma from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and a master's degree in public law.
He has published around thirty books.
